Vice Chancellor of SRMIST Dr.Sandeep Sancheti delivered the keynote address on the new education policy. He briefed the overarching vision and comprehensive framework of <span class="il">NEP</span> <span class="il">2020</span> for both school and higher education. The National Testing Agency will introduce a pilot version of the common entrance test, used for admission to all Institute of Eminences (IoEs) and central universities in 2021. Hostel Kitchen Facilities SRMIST hostel has modernized kitchen with hi-tech facilities like chimney, solar steam cooking and large dining area with granite flooring sufficient tables and chairs cleaned three times a day. RO Plants located in various places provides 4 lakhs liters RO drinking water /day to be used in hostels and academic places for students and faculties.</div><div><br /></div><div> 5. Campus greenery: SRMIST has 30 percent greenery exhibited in a football turf measuring 3.5 acres with sprinkler facilities. </div><div><br /></div><div> 6. Solar Power Generation 1MW capacity Solar panels are the major renewable energy source with grid connection to the main power supply at SRMIST. Installation of Solar water heaters in all hostels & solar steam cooking system in mess block has saved our LPG gas use. Solar Steam Cooking System with Concentrated Solar Technology has 37 Nos of scheffler dish concentrators of each 16 m2 area. The system is designed to deliver 1500 kg of steam per day (max.) with temperatures up to 140oC. </div><div><br /></div><div> 7. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan - Adoption of Villages Through Unnat Bharat Abhiyan scheme SRMIST has adopted five villages, (Orathur, Nattarasanpattu - Kundrathur Block, Thenmelpakkam, Anjur, Pattaravakkam – Kattankulathur Block, Kancheepuram District) and about 400 to 500 households / village. About 2,500 households have been sensitized vaious sustainable Development goals like clean environment, clean drinking water, Ban plastic etc. Residents were also educated on waste disposal. SRMIST received UBA 2.0 funds for development & customization of technology for the following projects</div><div> • Versatile Anaerobic reactor for households to yield biogas utilizing waste - for Orathur Village </div><div>• End-To-End integrated Rationing system for Distribution of Provisions -for Anjur Village</div><div> • Reverse osmosis plant for rural water Treatment –for Orathur village </div><div><br /></div><div>SRM IST Students conducted surveys in the village. Supplied Electronics kits to the Science Lab of Government High School, Anjur, Electrical faults in the school buildings were rectified and the drinking water pump was serviced. Kisan Credit Card (KCC)

<p><span style="font-size: x-large;">PM-KISAN Scheme</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">PM Kisan is a Central Sector scheme with 100% funding from Government of India.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">It has become operational from 1.12.2018.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Under the scheme an income support of 6,000/- per year in three equal installments will be provided to small and marginal farmer families having combined land holding/ownership of upto 2 hectares.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Definition of family for the scheme is husband, wife and minor children.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">State Government and UT administration will identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">The fund will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">The first instalment for the period 1.12.2018 to 31.03.2019 is to be provided in the financial year itself.<o:p></o:p></p> <br /> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Kisan Credit Card (KCC)</span> is one of the major schemes launched by the government to help small farmers. The Scheme is being implemented through the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI), under the administrative control of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, and Government of India.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">In September 2015, the „Jan Aushadhi Scheme‟ was revamped as „Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana‟ (PMJAY). In November, 2016, to give further impetus to the scheme, it was again renamed as “Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana” (PMBJP).Accordingly, 'ensuring availability of quality medicines at affordable prices to all', has been a key objective of the Government.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">The Salient features of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme are:<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">i. Making quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly for the the poor and disadvantaged, through specialized outlets called the Jan Aushadhi Stores (JAS).<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">ii. Provision of built up space for JAS in district hospitals by the State Governments<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iii. Operation of JAS by the State Government nominated Operating Agencies like NGOs, Charitable Organizations and public societies like the Red Cross Society and Rogi Kalyan Samitis, constituted for the purpose<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iv. Meeting the operational expenditure from the trade margins admissible for the medicines.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">v. Supply of the generic medicines in the first instance by the Central Pharma PSUs so as to ensure both quality and timely supply. However, wherever required, medicines could be sourced from quality small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) units.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">vi. To ensure prescription of generic medicines by the Government doctors with proactive support from the State Governments. The Key objectives of Jan Aushadhi Scheme are:<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">i. To make quality the hallmark of medicines by ensuring supplies from the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSUs) and also through other Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs) and Good manufacturing practices (GMP) compliant manufacturers in the private sector.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">ii. Extend coverage of quality generic medicines, which would reduce and thereby redefine the unit cost of treatment per person.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iii. Provide access to any prescription drug or Over the Counter (OTC) drug in all therapeutic categories as generic equivalents, which is not to be restricted to the beneficiaries of Public Health System alone but also to serve others.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iv. Create awareness through education and publicity that quality is not synonymous with high price<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">v. Create a demand for generic medicines “By All for All” by improving access to better healthcare through low treatment costs.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">vi. Involve State governments, Central Government, Public Sector Enterprises, and Private Sector, NGOs, Cooperative bodies and other institutions since it is a public welfare programme.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">vii. Develop a model which can be replicated in other countries of the world, in pursuit of their common goal of achieving affordable quality health care.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Benefits of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme Campaign<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">The Jan Aushadhi initiative makes available quality drugs at affordable prices through dedicated stores selling generic medicines which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs. Some comparative advantages are:<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">i. Promote greater awareness about cost-effective drugs and their prescription.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">ii. Make available unbranded quality generic medicines at affordable prices through public-private partnership.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iii. Encourage doctors, more specifically in government hospitals, to prescribe generic medicines.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">iv. Agriculture, Co-operation, Horticulture,Statistics, Revenue, Information/Science & Technology, Panchayati Raj etc. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Highlights of the scheme<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">There will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5%. The premium rates to be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the Government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on account of natural calamities.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">There is no upper limit on Government subsidy. Even if balance premium is 90%, it will be borne by the Government.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Earlier, there was a provision of capping the premium rate which resulted in low claims being paid to farmers. This capping was done to limit Government outgo on the premium subsidy. This capping has now been removed and farmers will get claim against full sum insured without any reduction.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">The use of technology will be encouraged to a great extent. Smart phones will be used to capture and upload data of crop cutting to reduce the delays in claim payment to farmers. Remote sensing will be used to reduce the number of crop cutting experiments.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">PMFBY is a replacement scheme of  NAIS / MNAIS, there will be exemption from Service Tax liability of all the services involved in the implementation of the scheme. The assistance for construction of toilet shall be leveraged though convergence with SBM-G, MGNREGS or any other dedicated the source of funding. The SECC data captures specific deprivation related to housing among households. Using the data households that are houseless and living in 0,1 and 2 kutcha wall and kutcha roof houses can be segregated and targeted . The Permanent Wait List so generated also ensures that the states have the ready list of the household to be covered under the scheme in the coming years (through Annual Select Lists) leading to better planning of implementation. One of the major constraints in quality house construction is the lack of the sufficient number of skilled masons. To address this, a pan-India training and certification programme of Masons has been launched in the States/UTs. This will, in addition, and career progression for rural masons. For timely construction/completion to ensure good quality of house construction, it has also been envisaged to tag a PMAY-G the beneficiary with a field level Government functionary and a Rural Mason.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">7.The beneficiary to be assisted by in-house construction with a bouquet of house design typologies inclusive of disaster resilience features the are suitable to their local geo-climatic conditions . These designs are developed through an elaborate public consultative process. This exercise will ensure that the beneficiary does not over-construct in the initial stages of house building which often results in the incomplete house or the beneficiary is forced to borrow money to complete the house.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">8.In PMAY-G, programme implementation and monitoring is to be carried out through an end to end e-Governance model- Using AwaasSoft and Awaas App. While AwaasSoft is a work –flow enabled, web-based electronic service delivery platform through which all critical function of PMAY-G, right from identification of beneficiary to providing construction linked assistance (throghPFMS),will be carried out; AwaasApp-a the mobile application is to be used to monitor real time, evidence based progress of house construction through date and time stamped and georeferenced photographs of the house. The tow IT application help identify the slip ups in the achievement of targets during the course of implementation of the programme. All payments to beneficiary is to be through DBT to beneficiary’s Bank/post office accounts registered in Awaas SoftMIS.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">9.The States have to come up with their Annual Action Plan of PMAY-That will include a plan for convergence in with other Government programme . She was born in 1982. She completed Ph.D (Forestry) with rank of Topper (9.25/10.0) in her 2006 batch at Forest College and Research Institute (TNAU), Mettupalyam in Tamil Nadu. She has joined in ICAR as a ARS scientist in November, 2009. She has more than 10 year of experience in the field of natural resource management (NRM) for degraded land improvement and management of gullies /ravine land systems through agroforestry, forestry, plantation development towards environmental restoration. She got GOI-SERB international travel grant support in 2019. She has been selected and received young scientist fellowship to attend international climate change conference at ICISE, Quynhon, Vietnam. She has published more than 35 research papers in reputed journals of national and international. Also, published more than 15 book chapters, one book and bulletin exclusively from her research findings and experiences in the field of forestry and agroforestry sciences. She have best poster (SCSI-2016) and best article award (AFM-2019) secured by her in different national forums.
