FREE MEDICAL CAMP As Part of the Hon’ble Chancellor’s Birthday Celebrations

As part of the Hon’ble Chancellor’s Birthday Celebrations, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), in association with the Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, organized a Free Medical Camp at Guruvanmedu Village on 11/08/2026. The programme was conducted with the objective of bringing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services closer to the rural population and promoting healthcare among the villagers.




 

 

The medical camp was conducted with the active support and cooperation of the Guruvanmedu Village Panchayat. The programme was attended by Kaveri Dhanapal Panchayat President, Mr.E. Dayanithi , Panchayat Secretary, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) and Nodal Officer, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST,Mr.N.S.Sridhar,sanitary inspector, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Co-ordinator , SRMIST and Dr. S.T.Aarthy, Assistant Professor, ECE Department, SRMIST.

 

A multidisciplinary team of doctors and healthcare professionals from the SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, headed by Dr. Padmavathi.L, Associate Professor, Community medicine provided comprehensive medical services to the residents of Guruvanmedu Village. The medical team included specialists from various departments such as General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Audiology. The presence of specialists from multiple disciplines ensured that villagers of different age groups could receive appropriate medical attention and guidance.


 

 

The camp provided a wide range of free healthcare services, including general and specialist medical consultations, measurement of height and weight, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, basic blood investigations, general health screening, eye examinations, health counselling and distribution of essential medicines. The medical team also created awareness among the villagers regarding preventive healthcare, personal hygiene, nutrition, healthy lifestyle practices, and the importance of regular medical check-ups.

 

Patients who were identified with health conditions requiring further investigation or specialized treatment were appropriately counselled and referred to SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre for advanced medical care and follow-up. This referral mechanism enabled beneficiaries to receive continued medical support beyond the camp.

 

The programme also witnessed the active participation of students and volunteers from SRMIST, who assisted in beneficiary registration, patient guidance, queue management, and coordination of various activities during the camp. Their involvement contributed significantly to the smooth and systematic conduct of the programme.

 

The medical camp received a positive response from the residents of Guruvanmedu Village with approximately 106 villagers benefiting from the free medical consultations, diagnostic services, health screening, medicines, and health awareness activities. The camp provided an


important opportunity for the rural community to access specialist healthcare services at their doorstep.

 

The initiative also contributed to the early identification of health concerns and encouraged villagers to adopt preventive healthcare practices. Through medical screening and awareness activities, the programme emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, regular health monitoring, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

 

The Free Medical Camp at Guruvanmedu Village forms part of the series of medical camps being organized by SRMIST under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan as part of the Hon’ble Chancellor’s Birthday Celebrations. The initiative reflects the institution’s continued commitment to serving rural communities and strengthening the connection between higher education institutions and society.

 

The successful conduct of the medical camp at Guruvanmedu stands as a significant contribution towards inclusive healthcare, social responsibility, rural development, and nation-building. Through such initiatives, SRMIST continues to work towards improving the health and well-being of underserved rural communities and fulfilling the objectives of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

 

Conclusion:

The Free Medical Camp at Guruvanmedu Village successfully brought multidisciplinary healthcare services to the rural community and created awareness about preventive healthcare and healthy living. The programme reinforced SRMIST’s commitment to community engagement, rural healthcare, social responsibility, and the objectives of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
