Awareness program on World No-Tobacco Day 2023

                                             “We Need Food, Not Tobacco”

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan- SRMIST has conducted an awareness program on “Hazards of Tobacco Usage” at T P Ganesan Auditorium, Mini Hall I on 31^st May 2023. Nearly 150 members participated in the program including students, PhD Scholars, teaching and non-teaching staffs. The programme started with Tamil Thai Vazhthu. All the dignitaries and participants were welcome by Dr.T. Lakshmanan, professor and NSS Coordinator- SRMIST and he also gave an introduction about the usage and harmfulness of the tobacco to the society. 

The chief guest of the program Dr. M.Logaraj, Associate Dean (QA) - MHS- SRMIST gave a small speech on the event. He spoke on the ill effects of tobacco and its addicting effects. And shared general knowledge about National and world wide tobacco usage and cultivation information. The program was felicitated by Dr.V.V.Anantharaman, HOD- Dept. of Community Medicine. He gave a stunning speech about the types of tobacco and its harmful effects on health. Not only about the smokers but also how it will affect the nonsmoker who lives with them and impact to the society. Mr.Manivannan, from maintenance team who has affected with smoking has shared his real life experience and how it changed his life. And he said the participants now he realized the impact of using these stuffs and not to use by anyone. Followed by that a pledge was taken by all.

Pledge:

I take a pledge that I shall never use or consume any type of tobacco products in my life.

I shall motivate all my family members, friends and acquaintances also to not to use any tobacco products.

I shall also contribute to protection of my environment from use of tobacco products.

I shall encourage at least 10 other persons to take this pledge which I am taking today.

Vote of Thanks was given by Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) and the program ended with national Anthem.
