1.
Executive Summary

As part of the
NWC Outreach Event Series under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), the Department of
Networking and Communications, SRM Institute of Science and Technology
(SRMIST), conducted a Tree Plantation Drive at Karunilam Village on 25 September 2026.
The activity was organized under
the theme “Plant a Tree for a Greener Tomorrow” with the stated
objective of promoting environmental responsibility, afforestation and
community involvement in sustainability practices.

The programme brought together 11 faculty members
and 20 student volunteers from the Department of Networking and Communications, along with 15 village
representatives and residents. Participants planted saplings at designated
locations in Karunilam Village, with faculty members coordinating the activity
and guiding student volunteers. The involvement of village residents
strengthened institution–community interaction and provided students with
practical exposure to a community-based environmental initiative.

The reported expenditure for the event
was Rs. 3,600/-, comprising tree saplings, mementos, fencing net, driver lunch and banner cost. The source report records no external sponsoring agency and states
that the activity received
university contribution.

The Tree Plantation Drive formed the second activity
in the NWC Outreach Event
Series under UBA. The source activity report identifies
environmental responsibility, afforestation and community involvement in
sustainability practices as the central purpose of the event.

Conducting the
activity in Karunilam Village created an opportunity for the university team
and the village community to participate in a practical
environmental activity together.
Student volunteers were not only involved in planting
saplings but also supported the arrangements required for the activity, while
faculty members coordinated the programme and interacted with residents.

The activity
therefore combined environmental action, student engagement and institution–community
interaction within the adopted village context.

Programme Implementation</h1>

The activity
was conducted at designated locations in Karunilam Village.
The programme involved
the coordinated participation of faculty members, student volunteers and
village residents.

Student volunteers took part in planting the saplings and supported the arrangements required
for the plantation activity.
Faculty members coordinated the activity, provided guidance to students and
interacted with village residents to facilitate their participation.

The photographs included in the source report document group
participation, presentation of mementos and
saplings to village
residents, student and faculty participation, and the actual
planting of saplings
by faculty members and student volunteers.

GPDP / UBA Community-Development Relevance</h1>

From a
GPDP-oriented community-development perspective, the activity can be documented
as an environmental and community-participation intervention. The source report
establishes the plantation activity, the participation of village residents and
the sustainability objective. It does not state that the activity was formally entered
under a specific
GPDP budget head or Gram Sabha resolution; therefore, this report presents the GPDP relevance as an
alignment perspective rather than an unverified formal classification.

Suggested SDG Alignment</h1>

The following SDG linkages are suggested based
on the documented scope of the activity; the source event
report itself does not list specific SDGs.

Outcomes of the Activity</h1>

<h1 style="margin-top: 8.2pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: .5in;"><a name="12._Community_Impact"></a>12.  Community Impact</h1>

The principal
community impact documented by the activity is the creation of a shared
environmental action involving the institution and the village community. The
participation of residents gave the programme
a community-oriented character, while student involvement provided experiential learning outside the classroom.

The activity also created an opportunity for continued interaction
between SRMIST and Karunilam Village. The source
report records positive
participation from students, faculty members and village
residents and notes that students appreciated the opportunity to participate in
a community-oriented environmental initiative.

Feedback and Community Response</h1>

According to the
source event report, the event received positive participation from students,
faculty members and village residents. Student volunteers actively contributed
to the plantation activity and appreciated the opportunity to participate in a community-oriented environmental initiative. Interaction with residents provided
students with meaningful exposure to community engagement and environmental
responsibility.

The plantation drive can serve
as a starting point for continued environment-focused outreach
in Karunilam Village. Any subsequent activities should be planned based
on local priorities and appropriate consultation with village stakeholders.

·
Periodic monitoring and maintenance of planted
saplings.

·
Additional plantation drives
based on identified community
and site requirements.

·
Awareness programmes on water conservation and sustainable natural-resource use.

·
Student-led environmental awareness
and cleanliness activities.

·
Waste segregation and responsible waste-management awareness.

·
Community awareness on climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable practices.

·
Documentation of survival
rates and long-term environmental outcomes.</div>
