REPORT ON FREE MEDICAL CAMP – CHETTIPUNIYAM VILLAGE

As part of the Hon'ble Chancellor's Birthday Celebrations, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), in association with the Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, successfully organized a Free Medical Camp at Chettipunniyam Village on 05 August 2026. The camp was part of a series of eight free medical camps planned across the adopted villages of SRMIST, with the objective of providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to rural communities.

 

The programme was attended by Mr. Arul, President, Chettipunniyam Village Panchayat; Mr. Anandakumar, Panchayat Secretary; Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) and Nodal Officer, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST; 

A multidisciplinary team of doctors from SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, headed by Dr. Sangita, rendered comprehensive healthcare services to the villagers. The medical team comprised specialists from General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Audiology, ensuring holistic medical care for people of all age groups.

 

The camp offered a comprehensive range of free healthcare services, including general and specialist medical consultations, height and weight measurement, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, basic blood investigations, health screening, health education, and distribution of essential medicines. Eye examinations were also conducted for beneficiaries requiring ophthalmic evaluation, while patients identified with conditions requiring advanced medical care were counselled and referred to SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre for further treatment and follow-up.

Students of the Tamil Perayan Paari Manavar Narpani Mandram actively volunteered throughout the programme by assisting in beneficiary registration, patient guidance, queue management, documentation, and coordination of various camp activities, contributing significantly to the smooth and efficient conduct of the medical camp.

The medical camp received an overwhelming response from the local community, with more than 110 villagers benefiting from the free consultations, diagnostic services, health screening, eye examinations, and medicines. The initiative played a vital role in promoting preventive healthcare, early detection of diseases, and awareness of healthy lifestyle practices among the rural population.

The successful conduct of the Free Medical Camp at Chettipunniyam Village demonstrated SRMIST's continued commitment to community engagement and rural healthcare through the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative. The collaborative efforts of SRMIST, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, village authorities, doctors, staff, and student volunteers contributed significantly to the effective delivery of essential healthcare services to the rural community.
