Medical Camp and welfare Scheme distribution –Old Perungalathur
Healthcare outreach formed an important part of SRM Institute of Science and Technology’s (SRMIST) community development initiatives, as part of the Hon'ble Chancellor's Birthday Celebrations, leading to the organization of a Free Medical Camp at Saradha Sakthi Beedam on 29 August 2026. The programme was undertaken by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST, in association with the Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, to extend essential healthcare services to the rural community.
This program was headed by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) and Nodal Officer, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST.
A multidisciplinary team of doctors from SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, headed by Dr,G.Susmitha. Dept.Of Community Medicine rendered comprehensive healthcare services to the villagers. The medical team comprised specialists from General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Audiology, ensuring holistic medical care for people of all age groups.
The camp offered a comprehensive range of free healthcare services, including general and specialist medical consultations, height and weight measurement, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, basic blood investigations, health screening, health education, and distribution of essential medicines. Eye examinations were also conducted for beneficiaries requiring ophthalmic evaluation, while patients identified with conditions requiring advanced medical care were counselled and referred to SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre for further treatment and follow-up.
The medical camp received an overwhelming response from the local community, with more than 180 villagers benefiting from the free consultations, diagnostic services, health screening, eye examinations, and medicines. The initiative played a vital role in promoting preventive healthcare, early detection of diseases, and awareness of healthy lifestyle practices among the rural population.
The successful conduct of the Free Medical Camp at demonstrated SRMIST's continued commitment to community engagement and rural healthcare through the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative.
