(SRMIST) community development initiatives, as part of the <b>Hon'ble
Chancellor's Birthday Celebrations</b>, leading to the organization of a Free
Medical Camp <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">at Saradha Sakthi</b> <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Beedam</b> on 29 August 2026. The programme
was undertaken by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST, in association with the
Department of Community Medicine, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research

Dept.Of Community Medicine<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span></b>rendered
comprehensive healthcare services to the villagers. The medical team comprised
specialists from General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics &
Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry,
and Audiology, ensuring holistic medical care for people of all age groups.</span></p>

SRMIST Strengthens Green Mission with Palm Seed Collection Drive

<p> SRMIST Strengthens Green Mission with Palm Seed Collection Drive  </p><p><b>Kattankulathur, August 26, 2026:</b> As part of the 
Hon’ble Chancellor’s Birthday Celebrations and in line with his vision 
of protecting nature through plantation initiatives, <b>SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST)</b> organised a <b>Palm Seed Collection Drive on August 26, 2026</b>, at the <b>Paathiri Village Lake Bunds near Melmaruvathur</b>.</p><p>The drive was organised by <b>UBA-SRMIST and SRM Green Club</b>, in association with <b>Rotaract and the Social Club – Directorate of Student Affairs, SRMIST</b>, with a target of collecting <b>20,000 palm seeds</b>. A total of <b>73 registered students and faculty members</b> participated in the environmental initiative.</p><p>The programme commenced with a welcome address by <b>Dr. S</b>.<b> Pradeep, Assistant Director, Student Affairs & Coordinator, SRM Green Club</b>. <b>Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director – Campus Life & </b><b>Nodal Officer, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST, </b>delivered
 a special address and emphasised the importance of protecting nature, 
conserving native species and involving students in environmental 
sustainability initiatives.</p><p>The participants departed from the <b>Clock Tower, Annexure Campus, Kattankulathur, at 6.45 a.m.</b>
 and reached the Paathiri Village Lake Bunds. Breakfast was provided to 
the participants before the commencement of the field activity.</p><p>Prior to the collection, <b>Dr.S. Pradeep, Assistant Director – Student Affairs</b>,
 briefed the participants on safety precautions and guidelines to be 
followed during the activity. Students and faculty members then 
enthusiastically participated in collecting palm seeds along the lake 
bunds.</p><p>The collection activity continued until <b>11.30 a.m.</b>, resulting in the collection of approximately <b>6,000 palm seeds</b>. The collected seeds were loaded into a truck and transported to the <b>SRMIST campus</b> for future plantation and environmental conservation activities.</p><p>The initiative supports the <b>United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)</b>, particularly <b>SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13 – Climate Action, and SDG 15 – Life on Land</b>, through its focus on plantation, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection.</p><p>The
 Palm Seed Collection Drive highlighted SRMIST’s commitment to 
environmental sustainability and provided students and faculty members 
with an opportunity to contribute directly to nature conservation. The 
successful participation of 73 members reinforced the institution’s
