As part of the National Nutrition Month celebration 2026 , Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan  , SRM IST organized a community field visit  Nutrition Awareness Programme on 3rd  September 2026 at Samuthayakodam (community hall), Anjur Village, Chengalpattu.






 

The programme was carried out with the participation of 21 PG II year students and faculty members. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to students in community-based nutritional assessment, dietary counselling, and nutrition education.

During the visit, anthropometric and functional assessments were conducted, including height, weight, BMI, Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), skinfold thickness, and handgrip strength. Information regarding participants’ dietary habits, meal patterns, food choices, hydration, and lifestyle practices was also collected through interaction with the participants.

Based on the assessment, individualized nutrition counselling was provided. Participants were educated on maintaining a balanced diet, adequate protein intake, regular consumption of fruits and vegetables, sufficient hydration, and healthy eating practices appropriate for an active lifestyle.

As part of the awareness activity, a short educational drama was presented to highlight the importance of balanced nutrition along with regular yoga practice. The programme emphasized the role of essential nutrients, adequate water intake, and the importance of avoiding unhealthy practices such as excessive junk food consumption, sugary drinks, and skipping meals.
