Empowering Rural Women through Entrepreneurship and Campus Collaboration

Venue: Near Tech Park, SRMIST Campus
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, in association with the Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihoods Mission (TNULM), the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Women’s Development, and the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, successfully organized a three-day College Bazaar from 30th July to 1st August 2025.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shivganesh Bhargava, Dean, School of Management, in the presence of Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life), SRMIST, and Ms. Emilly Priya, Assistant Project Officer (APO), Chengalpattu District – Mahalir Thittam, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Women from various Self Help Groups (SHGs) representing UBA–SRMIST adopted villages showcased a vibrant range of rural products. The stalls featured:
Nursery and garden items
Garments and hand-stitched clothes
Homemade herbal soaps
Traditional sweets and snacks
Eco-friendly household products
Handicrafts and decorative items
The event witnessed active participation from students and faculty, who visited the stalls and supported the women entrepreneurs by purchasing their products.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shivganesh Bhargava highlighted the importance of nurturing rural entrepreneurship. He announced that the School of Management will provide training in marketing and product positioning to SHG members, helping them enhance their visibility and reach broader markets.
This initiative served as a platform to:
Promote women-led micro-enterprises
Provide market linkage for rural products
Foster academic-social collaboration under UBA
The three-day bazaar concluded on a highly successful note, building momentum for continued support to rural women entrepreneurs through institutional and government partnerships.
