The department of Food Process Engineering, SRMIST, KTR and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST conducted an Entrepreneurship Development Program on Processed Marine and Oilseed based Food Products to Empower Chengalpattu District Self Help Group Women, Tamil Nadu, In association with SANVIHA FOODTECH SOLUTION CHENNAI on the dates 16th and 17th of December 2022. The program was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Anjur village, Chengalpattu. More than 30 SHG Women were participants in the inauguration. 

The program started at 10:00am by welcome address given by Dr. P.Gurumoorthi, Associate Professor, HoD (I/c), Dept. Food Process Engg, SRM IST. 

It was followed by presidential address was by Dr. V. Thirumurugan Associate Director (CL) and UBA Nodal officer. He has mentioned about the schemes which SRM IST is running through Village adaption programme in the Chengalpattu (Dt.) 

Inaugural address was given by Mr. Senthil Kumar, Deputy Director, MSME DFO, Chennai. He explained about the Central Government and State Government schemes available for SHG to start a business. 

A key note address was delivered by Mr. S. Arul, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Collectorate Compound, Chengalpattu (Dt) explained about the specific scheme as Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) which is most relevant to the EDP.

Mr. P. Murugesan CEO, Sanviha Foodtech Solution, Chennai elaborated on the topic “Food Product Marketing” based on his two decades experience in the food industries at different capacities.

Dr. G. Nagamaniammai Associate Professor, Dept. Food Process Engg, SRM IST delivered a detailed note on the topic mandatory FSSAI regulatory aspects for Food Products to be followed new Food Business Operators starting from FSSAI registration and other protocols in detail.

Followed by Dr. P. Gurumoorthi Associate Professor, HoD (I/c), Dept. Food Process Engg, SRM IST gave a detailed information about Labelling of food products based on the requirements of FSSAI. He briefed about the label declaration, nutritional information to be followed while selling packed food products.

The participants was fortunate to interact with successful Herbal product Entrepreneur Mr. Ashok and Mr. Roshan, CEO, Zeromeat a start - up.  

Today the EDP was conclude with knowledge gaining starting from Food business idea, marketing, Government schemes, regulatory aspects. Tomorrow the same set of SHG women will be given hands on training at Department of Food process Engineering by Dr. G. Nagamaniammai and Mr. P. Murugesan on processed Marine products and Oil seed based products development.
