Awareness Programme on Violence Against Women Held at Nattarasanpattu Village
An awareness programme on Violence Against Women was conducted on 23 December 2025 for the rural women of Nattarasanpattu village, an adopted village of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST). The programme aimed to create awareness about the various forms of violence faced by women and to empower them with knowledge on self-protection, legal rights, and available support systems.
The programme was jointly organised by the Internal Committee and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), SRMIST, and was held at the Panchayat Union Middle School (PUMS), Vadamelpakkam. Dr. S. Ramya, Member, Internal Committee, SRMIST, served as the resource person and delivered an insightful and engaging session.
The session was highly interactive, with women participants openly sharing their experiences and challenges. This led to meaningful discussions on women’s rights, personal safety measures, prevention strategies, and the mechanisms available for reporting and seeking help. The open dialogue helped build confidence among the participants and encouraged collective learning.
Around 20 women from the village, belonging to the age group of 23 to 60 years, actively participated in the programme and benefitted from the awareness sessions.
The programme was successfully coordinated by Ms. Aishwarya and Mr. Sridhar from UBA, SRMIST, along with Mr. Sunil from the Department of LCS, ensuring smooth organisation and effective execution of the event.
The awareness programme significantly contributed to community engagement, confidence building, and empowerment of rural women. Notably, a few participants expressed keen interest in learning skill-based activities for self-employment and sought guidance in this regard, highlighting the positive impact of the initiative and the need for continued support programmes.
