Introduction:

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, through its SRM Muthucharam Community Radio 90.4 MHz, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA 2.0), organized a Health Awareness Program and Medical Camp at Panchayat Union Middle School, Chettipunniyam. The initiative aimed to promote health consciousness among the rural community and provide basic medical consultation and health check-ups free of cost.


Objectives:

  • To spread awareness about health and hygiene among school students and local villagers.

  • To provide free medical consultations and check-ups.

  • To identify common health issues prevalent in the community and recommend preventive measures.

  • To encourage the importance of regular health screenings.


Program Highlights:

The program began with an inaugural session introducing the objectives of the Health Awareness initiative. Medical professionals and volunteers from SRMIST participated enthusiastically to make the event successful.

Various medical departments, including General Medicine, Eye Care, and Mental Health, offered consultation services. Students and residents of Chettipunniyam benefited from personalized health advice and screenings.

Doctors and medical staff conducted individual consultations, distributed awareness pamphlets, and educated attendees about nutrition, hygiene, and mental well-being.

SRM Muthucharam Community Radio covered the event, promoting awareness messages to reach a wider audience.


Beneficiaries:

  • School students and staff of Panchayat Union Middle School.

  • Local residents of Chettipunniyam village.

  • Around 150+ individuals were examined and guided during the camp.


Outcomes:

  • Participants gained awareness of preventive healthcare and hygiene practices.

  • Several individuals were advised for follow-up treatments at SRM Medical College and Hospital.

  • The event strengthened the community linkage between SRMIST and the adopted villages under the UBA initiative.


Conclusion:

The Health Awareness Program and Medical Camp successfully achieved its objectives of promoting community health and wellness. The joint effort of SRMIST, SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, and UBA 2.0 emphasized SRM’s commitment toward rural health development and social responsibility.

 SRMIST Leads Maraimalai Nagar Lake Cleanliness Drive under Swachhata Hi Seva 2025

Maraimalai Nagar, 15th October 2025: As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS 2025) and Special Campaign 5.0, SRM Institute of Science and Technology organized a Lake Cleanliness Drive at Maraimalai Nagar, focusing on clearing bushes and shrubs in the designated area as preparatory work for beautification. The initiative was spearheaded by the SRM Green Club and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs and the Maraimalai Nagar Municipality.
The event was inaugurated with great enthusiasm by the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Commissioner of Maraimalai Nagar Municipality. The program also witnessed active participation from the Health Officer and Sanitary Inspector, who guided the cleanliness operations.
From the university side, the initiative saw involvement from ADCL, Deputy Director – Student Affairs, SHS Nodal Officer, faculty members, staff, and students across various streams, demonstrating a strong collaborative effort in environmental stewardship. Participants actively engaged in clearing the bushes and shrubs around the lake, promoting awareness of sustainable waste management and environmental cleanliness.
The drive aimed not only at enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the water body but also at instilling a sense of civic responsibility and environmental consciousness among students. The event successfully highlighted the synergy between academic institutions and local municipal authorities in advancing the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities).
SRMIST continues to take a proactive role in promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement through initiatives like the Maraimalai Nagar Lake Cleanliness Drive.

ESSAY & SPEECH COMPETITIONS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF VALUE EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS (UBA ADOPTED SCHOOL)


ESSAY & SPEECH COMPETITIONS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF VALUE EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS (UBA ADOPTED SCHOOL)

 The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), in association with the UBA, organized Essay and Speech Competitions on the Importance of Value Education for UBA (Unnat Bharat Abhiyan) adopted village school students on 15th October 2025 at Pattaravakkam Government School.

The event aimed to nurture values, empower minds, and inspire young learners to build a better future through education and creativity. The competitions were designed to motivate students to reflect on important societal and sustainable development themes aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All participants received certificates of appreciation for their enthusiastic involvement.

The competitions were conducted under five tracks 

Track 1: Essay Writing Competition (English/Tamil) focusing on Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Quality Education (SDG 4).

Track 2: Speech Competition (English/Tamil) emphasizing topics such as Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7).

Track 3: Debate Competition (English/Tamil) on the theme For a Sustainable Future: Enhancing Progress or Posing Risks (SDG 12).

Track 4: Drawing Competition using MS Paint with themes like Clean Nature, Healthy Future (SDG 3) and My Green Planet, My Dream World (SDG 15).

Track 5: Fashion Forward: Design the Future  a creative competition encouraging students to design using recycled and reusable materials.

The competitions provided a vibrant platform for school students to enhance their creativity, critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills. It encouraged young participants to express their ideas and values related to sustainable living, health, education, and equality.

The event was convened by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life).The co-convenors were Dr. S.  Usha, Associate Professor, and Dr. A. Geetha, Associate Professor & Dr. K. Selvakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, coordinated the event.

Through these value-based competitions, SRMIST reaffirmed its commitment to promoting holistic education and nurturing responsible citizens equipped with knowledge, ethics, and compassion.

An essay writing competition for school students provides a platform to enhance creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills. Participants are usually given a specific theme or topic to write about within a word limit, encouraging them to express their ideas and perspectives. These competitions often aim to foster a love for writing and intellectual exploration, while also helping students improve their vocabulary, grammar, and argumentation skills. Winners may receive certificates, trophies, or scholarships, and their work might be published, giving students recognition and boosting their confidence in their writing abilities.

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

A speech competition for school students is an engaging event that helps develop public speaking and communication skills. Students prepare and deliver speeches on assigned or chosen topics, aiming to present their ideas clearly and persuasively. The competition nurtures confidence, creativity, and critical thinking, while teaching students how to effectively organize and express their thoughts in front of an audience. Participants are judged on content, delivery, voice modulation, and body language. The event not only boosts students' self-esteem but also prepares them for future leadership roles, with winners often receiving awards or certificates of achievement.




SPEECH COMPETITION

A drawing competition for school students is an excellent platform for young artists to showcase their creativity and imagination. Participants are typically given a theme or topic to interpret visually, allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas through art. The competition encourages artistic development, fosters a sense of accomplishment, and helps improve focus and fine motor skills. Students are judged based on creativity, technique, use of colors, and originality. Winners may receive certificates, medals, or prizes, and their artwork could be displayed in school exhibitions, boosting their confidence and encouraging future artistic endeavors.

 DRAWING COMPETITION

The Fashion Forward competition for school students is a creative event that allows young fashion enthusiasts to explore and showcase their design skills. Participants are tasked with creating innovative fashion concepts, which could include clothing designs, accessories, or styling based on a given theme. The competition encourages originality, attention to detail, and an understanding of fashion trends, while also fostering confidence and creative expression. Students are judged on their creativity, practicality of designs, and presentation skills. The event not only helps budding designers refine their craft but also provides them with exposure to the fashion industry, with winners often receiving recognition through certificates, prizes, or opportunities for further mentorship.

 The prize distribution ceremony at a school event is a significant occasion that celebrates students' achievements and talents across various competitions and activities. Winners are awarded trophies, medals, certificates, and special gifts. 

The teachers and HM from the school thanked the coordinators for organizing the event.
