National Sports Day Celebration at Panchayat Union Middle School Kolathur - 29 August 2024

 

SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, observed National Sports Day on 29^th August 2024, at Panchayat Union Middle School, Kolathur village. This day marks the importance of sports and physical activities for overall health. Dr. T. Kalaivani, the station manager of SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, gave a warm welcome to the event and emphasized the importance of National Sports Day as well as the critical role that community radio plays in local outreach. The keynote address on "UBA AND SRMIST PARTNERSHIP" was given by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) & Nodal Officer Unnat Bharat Abhiyan / SBSI-SRMIST. Dr. S Jayasingh Albert Chandrasekar, Head, Department of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, SRMIST, then discussed "SPORTS AND ITS IMPORTANCE."

The headmaster of Panchayat Union Middle School in Kolathur, Mr. B R Rajan, offered enlightening comments and feedback. Students participated in a sports competition earlier, which was judged by experts from SRMIST's Department of Physical Education & Sports Sciences. Prizes were awarded to distinguished participants. Refreshments and gifts of gratitude were profusely given to every student, along with the teachers. The vote of thanks was given by Assistant Station Manager Dr. R.M. Hariharan, who embodied the attitude of friendship and appreciation. Mr. Thairiyaraj, Production Executive, and Mr. Kesavan, Sound Engineer, both from SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, skillfully planned the event. An Outreach Program on SDG5 “Celebrating Resilience: Women’s Equality” on 28.08.2024 at Govt High School, Anjur Village

 

The Department of ECE and the IEEE - SRM Student Branch, in collaboration with Unnat Bharath Abhiyan, organized an outreach event on August 28, 2024 (10:00 am to 1:00 pm), at UBA-adopted Anjur Village for rural high school students and teachers. This event aimed to raise awareness and educate the rural government high school community about Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality. It was part of the International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals – 2024, with the theme: "Celebrating Resilience: Women's Equality." 

Dr. P. Viyakumar, Professor of ECE at SRMIST, KTR Campus, welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. S. Vasanthi, Associate Professor of ECE and event Convener, provided an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1–17) and emphasized the significance of SDG 5 – Gender Equality and Government initiatives to the students of Govt High School, Anjur.

 Around 86 students from the 11th standard participated in the awareness program. The message of supporting gender equality was conveyed through a meme play performed by third-year ECE students (Ms. Vasantha, Ms. Rohini, Ms. Vidya Sree, Ms. Akankshya, and Ms. Pragati). The performance was well-received by the students, with Ms. Sahana narrating the context of each scene. The event continued with a quiz program, where students actively participated and won prizes. The quiz assessed their awareness of Gender Equality. Another engaging activity was "Guess Who?" which involved identifying famous personalities from various fields. The students eagerly participated, and the quiz and "Guess Who?" sessions were hosted by Ms. Sahana, Mr. Kanishk, and Mr. Kaushik in a bilingual format. A highlight of the event was the "Situation Problem" activity, where students were presented with a scenario and their decision-making skills were evaluated in relation to gender equality. Mr. Sreeram and Ms. Kristen conducted this event, offering insights into the students' perspectives on gender equality. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the quiz, "Guess Who?" and the situation-based solution activities. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. Susila, Associate Professor of ECE and one of the event Convenor. Ms.Anju, was part of the entire event who represented UBA-SRMIST. 

Students Planted 5,000 Palm Seeds in Kolathur Village to Commemorate Founder's Birthday on August 25, 2024

     

    In a significant environmental initiative, SRM University students, faculty, and members of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) gathered to plant 5,000 palm seeds in the Mungil Eri area of Kolathur village, Chengalpattu district. This event commemorated the birthday of SRM University's founder, Dr. Parivendhar. The initiative, aligned with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Swachhata Hi Seva programs, underscores SRM University's commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) and Nodal Officer for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, led the event. Distinguished guests, including Mrs. Ashoka Dhanasekaran, President of the Kolathur Village Panchayat, Dr. S. Pradeep, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at SRM University and Chair of ASCE South India Section, and Dr. M.B. Sridhar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at SRM University, graced the occasion. In addition to the palm seed planting, 100 tree saplings were also planted. Following the environmental activity, students shared their reflections on the importance of sustainable practices and community engagement.
