Free Dental Camp at Minnal Chithamur adopted village – 27.06.2024

 

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, organized a treatment camp at Minnal Chithamur adopted village, Chengalpattu on 27/06/2024. Mr. Balaji, Panchayat President Minnal Chithamur gave a talk on importance of regular dental check-up to the village members and advised them to make use of this free dental camp to improve their oral hygiene practices. Dr.V. Thirumurugan, associate director (CL) & Nodal officer of UBA-SRMIST also witnessed the event and gave an informative talk during the health education on oral hygiene to the village people. Activities included dental screenings for oral mucosal lesions and educational sessions on the adverse effects of tobacco and drug use. During the visit, a comprehensive dental screening was conducted for 143 participants, which comprised dental screening for various oral diseases along with treatment for 4 patients.

Awareness Programme on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 26.06.2024


 Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST, Faculty of Science and Humanities & College of nursing in association with Tambaram City Police organized and hosted a comprehensive awareness program on drug abuse, aiming to educate students and community about the harmful effects of substance misuse. The programme started with Tamil Thai Vazhthu by Nursing students. Dr.V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director Campus Life & Nodal Officer of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST warmly welcomed the Guest of Honor Shri.M. Siddhartha Sankar Rai, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Tambaram City Police. He extended his welcome address to Our beloved Deputy Registrar Dr. Antony Ashok Kumar, Dean Faculty of Science and Humanities Dr. A. Duraisamy. He also welcomed Dr.T. Lakshmanan Professor- Dept. Of Mechanical Engineering & NSS Programme Advisor – SRMIST, Also all the NSS, NCC Coordinators and faculties and students. Followed by welcome address, Dr. A. Duraisamy, Dean Faculty of Science and Humanities honored the Chief guest with memento and Token of love. Presidential address was delivered by Dr.D. Antony Ashok Kumar Deputy Registrar – SRMIST. He briefly spoke about the harmfulness of drug usage and how it is degrading the society and our nation in different ways and also how to tackle this global issue. Inaugural Address was given by Shri.Ravi Kumar, Inspector of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Tambaram City Police. He elucidated on the psychological and social impact of various drugs commonly abused. He highlighted the detrimental effects on health, relationships and overall well-being. Also elaborated on the legal aspects related to drug abuse. He discussed the laws governing possession, trafficking, and consumption of illicit substances. Special emphasis was placed on the consequence’s individuals face under the law when evolved in drug-related activities. And also shared his experience with such cases. Felicitation was given by Dr. A. Duraisamy, Dean Faculty of Science and Humanities. He talked about the impact and consequences faced by the families and relations when the people involved in such activities and how they will breakdown and that will lead to end of that particular family. That was an eye-opening speech to all. Everyone took a pledge on this occasion against drug abuse. Finally vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.T. Lakshmanan Professor- Dept. Of Mechanical Engineering & NSS Programme Advisor. He spoke about not only drug addiction but also about the mobile phone addiction among the younger generations how it will impact their life. Following the successful drug abuse awareness program, an impactful awareness rally was conducted with all the guests and faculties and students. This rally aimed to extend the reach of key messages about the dangers of drug abuse and reinforce community involvement in prevention efforts. Rally started from Dr. T.P. Ganesan Auditorium and proceed through Tech park, lake, arch gate covering all areas of the campus. Participants carried banners, posters and placards with slogan and messages against drug abuse. Which attracted the public attention and promote dialogue on the issue.

Drawing Competition on World Anti-Tobacco Day at Kolathur School 25.06.2024

 


Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRM Institute of Science and Technology organized a drawing competition in commemoration of world anti-tobacco day at Panchayat Union Middle School Kolathur on 25.06.2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote a tobacco free lifestyle among students and the community. Students from 7th and 8th standards enthusiastically participated in the competition. The event saw a diverse range of participants showcasing their creativity, artistic skills through their drawing. The theme of the competition revolved around the hazards of tobacco consumption and the benefits of a smoke and tobacco free environment. Participants were encouraged to illustrate these themes creatively through their artwork. A panel of judges comprising of teachers and UBA-SRMIST staffs evaluated the entries based on creativity, relevance to the theme and overall artistic expressions. Several outstanding entries were recognized and awarded prizes to acknowledge their contribution to spreading awareness. Best three art works were selected for first three positions. The winners received prizes as a token of appreciation for their efforts. The prize distribution was done by Dr.V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) and Nodal Officer of UBA-SRMIST. All the participants were given with a small stationary kit contains Pouch, Pencil, Scale, eraser, Sharpener etc to encourage them to participate in more such events. Which was distributed by Mr. Rajan, Headmaster of Panchayat Union Middle School-Kolathur. The drawing competition successfully served its purpose of spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco and encouraging participants to express their views through art. It also fostered a sense of responsibility among students towards promoting a healthy lifestyle and advocating against tobacco use. Overall, The event was a resounding success. It not only provided a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents but also contributed significantly to raising awareness about the importance of combating tobacco use for a healthier society.

International Yoga Day Celebration - 2024

 


On June 21, 2024, the NSS Unit of SRMIST SRM College of Pharmacy association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Isha Yoga foundation, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, and SRM Faculty of Management, organized a Yoga event to celebrate International Yoga Day Vidyut theme of yoga for women empowerment, 2024. The event aimed to promote physical and mental well-being through the practice of yoga. A total of 305 NSS volunteers and 40 school students participated enthusiastically in the activities, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of yoga among community members. Looking ahead, the NSS plans to conduct monthly yoga sessions and health awareness programs to continue promoting holistic health through yoga. The event also included informative talks on the benefits of yoga and its role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Overall, it was a successful and enriching event that underscored the significance of yoga in promoting holistic health.

Medical Camp at Anjur adopted village (07.06.2024)

 

    


                            UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN (UBA) – SRMIST, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering & SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre in hands with Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission (TNSRLM), Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu organized a medical camp. A one-day free medical camp for the benefit of public in Anjur Village on 7th June 2024 (Friday). The medical camp was conducted at Primary Government school near Panchayat Office, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. Its organizing team including 18 Medical team members along headed with Mr. N. S. Sridhar, Sanitary Inspector and Ms. Anju, UBA Associate, SRMIST, KTR. The teams reached to the locality at 9.30 am and the camp was started. In total, 50 villagers joined the medical camp and got benefitted. Blood Sugar Level and Blood Pressure tests were examined which was beneficial for many villagers. People have undergone their general health check-ups and also people were benefitted with the dermatology-skin check- ups. After the checks up, people were provided medicines at free of cost. Few of the patients were referred by the doctors for further treatment at SRM Hospital. The Medical staff performed a crucial role in ensuring the success of this camp through their unwavering dedication to serving people.
