My India Village Visit-I Household Survey – Chunambedu 24.02.2024

 Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program: According to the Second Year BS and B.Sc. Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics curricula for the fourth semester, subject codes: UMI20S01L and UMI22S01L—My India Project.  

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, under the collage of science and humanities students for second-year BS and BSc Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics students and faculty members, visited the Chunambedu village, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu on 24.02.2023 In this visit, we mainly focus on and interact with these people for the survey of family details, education, economics, etc. Students instructed two divides into groups of two or three members and sent to all the streets and cover the households and asking for the major problems faced by the village members like health facility, Transportation facility, toilet facility etc.  The aim of this project is to provide our SRM institutions with a set of at least three villages and local communities to address development challenges through appropriate technologies so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of these village communities using their knowledge base. rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. Development and survey of the village, covering topics such as rural sanitation, toilets, drainage management, drinking water, road development, road evaluation and reinforcement, water conservation, health, and drought, among others. Students, faculty, and researchers contribute to innovative solutions for improving village life.




Baseline Household Survey at newly adopted village Chunambedu by students of Department of Teachers' education and research - SRMIST

 In a concerted effort to foster rural development and bridge the urban-rural divide, SRM University recently hosted a two-day census survey as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan initiative. This nationwide campaign aims to empower rural communities through various developmental interventions and knowledge exchange programs.

The survey, conducted on 14 ,February,2024 and 15, February ,2024 , saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and volunteers who embarked on a mission to gather vital data and insights into the socio- economic conditions of nearby rural areas.The survey teams traversed through soonambedu to engage with local residents and document key information pertaining to infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and other essential aspects of rural life.Through structured questionnaires and interactive sessions, the surveyors interacted with villagers to understand their needs, challenges, and aspirations. The data collected during this comprehensive exercise will serve as a crucial foundation for designing tailored interventions and sustainable development projects aimed at uplifting rural communities. Speaking about the significance of the initiative, Department of Teachers' education and research emphasized the university's commitment to societal welfare and its role as a catalyst for positive change. The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan aligns perfectly with our institution's ethos of serving the community and fostering inclusive growth. The survey revealed significant gaps in infrastructure, particularly in terms of roads, electricity, and sanitation facilities. Agriculture was found to be the primary source of livelihood for the majority of rural households.Many were employed in 100 days labour work. People were suffering from mosquitoes due to the presence of stagnant water. The successful execution of the census survey underscores SRM University's dedication to promotingg social responsibility and driving meaningful development beyond its campus borders. Moving forward, the institution pledges to collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and stakeholders to implement actionable initiatives based on the insights gleaned from the survey.





As the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan continues to gain momentum nationwide, SRM University remains steadfast in its commitment to contributing towards a more equitable and sustainable future for rural India.The survey conducted by the Department of Teachers Education and Research under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan highlights the multifaceted challenges faced by rural communities. By implementing the recommended interventions and fostering collaborative efforts among stakeholders, significant strides can be made towards holistic rural development and inclusive growth.

Outreach Activity: School visit - Orathur Panchayat Village 09.02.2024

 

The University Universal Human Value Cell, in association with Unnat Bharat Abhigyan on 9.02.2024. Around 20 second year students accompanied by 3 faculty members visited the School in Orathur Panchayat Village on 09.02.2024 at around 10 a.m. Around 50-75 school students participated in the event. The theme of the event was “puthagi for muzhumaiyana arokiyam”.



Ms. Anu L.S and her team graced the occasion and delivered a special talk to the students. She discussed about the topic of happiness and contentment in life with the students and she shared how students should set goal to attain happiness. Students also conducted a quiz program based on happiness and emotional elevation.

Medical Camp at SingaPerumal Koil (06.02.2024)

 

SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST has conducted free medical camp for village members from SP Koil adopted village on 06-02-2024 Tuesday. Camp was conducted at the Government Higher Secondary School located in the village which is easily accessible for the village peoples. Camp started by morning 8:45 This camp is totally teamwork which consist of medical and health professionals from various departments of SRM hospital. This General medical camp comprise Pediatrics, General Medicine, Dermatology, General Surgery Checkup were carried out. Totally 110 people undergone general health checkup. All are treated with free consultation, medication, diagnosis. Patients who need further and regular checkup and treatments were referred to SRM general hospital provided with free treatment cardFree food is being given when coming for treatment in hospital. This regular camping will improve the health status of the village members and very helpful for the early detection, diagnosis and also the treatment or therapeutic procedures. People who need medical care were referred to the respective departments and go through detailed evaluation and recommended for the treatment procedures. By 1:30 we have covered almost all the households of the village and people got benefitted with the camp and showed their gratitude towards the doctors and health professionals. Visitors from United States joined us on this day they are belong to the medical research team and social work. This team comprises of Liver Specialist, Infection control Specialist and social activists. They visited the school and school students also gave them a good speech regarding medical research and its importance also motivated the students to study well and be the part to take the nation and World to higher level in all aspects.

Awareness Cycle Rally for Swachhata - 11.02.2024

 

    

The Cycle Rally for Swachhata is a vibrant and impactful event that brings together cycling enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and fitness enthusiasts. The primary goal of this rally is to blend fitness with eco-awareness. Participants pedal their way through scenic routes while championing a cleaner and healthier environment. The event held on 11 Feb 2024, with around 30 participants: Cyclists of all ages and backgrounds were there students, professionals, families, security guards - those who were passionate about the environment they live in. Cycles were sponsored by Just-bicycles, Guduvanchery. The event started at 6am from the clock tower rrountana went towards MM nagar and the destination was SRM Care Farm at Gudalur.Around 7.30am the cycle rally team reached Gudalur and people shared their lived experiences regarding their love for cycle. The rally covered a distance of 20kms to and fro. Towards the end certificates were distributed to all the enthusiastic participants. The cycles were decorated with Colorful banners and flags displaying slogans like “Pedal for a Greener Earth” and “Clean Streets, avoid plastics etc.
