CHILDREN’S DAY PROGRAMME OUTREACH TO RURAL SCHOOL STUDENTS

Children’s Day, also known as “Bal Diwas” is celebrated every year in India on November 14, to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. He strongly believed that children are the foundation of a society, and they should be provided with a nurturing environment to produce the talented leaders & flag bearers of future India. The children's day celebration across the country is recognized to raise awareness about the rights, care & education of children.









SRM Muthucharam Community Radio in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan has conducted Children’s Day Programme - Outreach to Rural School Student in Panchayat Union Middle School, Pattaravakkam village on 12-11-2023.

The Children’s Day program was started by Welcome Address by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus life) & Nodal Officer Unnat Bharat Abhiyan/SBSI-SRMIST Coordinator-Environmental Management System SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Kattankulathur, Motivation Talk on “Future of India” was delivered by, Dr. Leenus Jesu Martin, Professor, Department of Automobile Engineering, SRMIST, Kattankulathur. Motivation Talk on “Good Habits” was delivered by, Dr. Annapurani Panaiyappan, Professor & Head, Department of Networking & Communications, SRMIST, Kattankulathur. Special Address by Mrs. Rajeswari Headmistress, Panchayat Union Middle School, Pattravakkam. Prizes for the school students were distributed by Dr R Sridhar Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, SRMIST, Finally Vote of thanks given by Dr T. Kalaivani, Station Manager SRM Muthucharam Community Radio, Dr. R.M. Hariharan, Assistant Station Manager, Mr Kesavan Sound Engineer, Mr. Thairiyaraj Production Executive, SRM

Muthucharam Community Radio were involved in organizing in the program.

Earlier organizers conducted activities like Thirukural Recitation Competition, Poetry Competition, Singing Competition, Drawing Competition and Speech Competition for the school students. Competitions were judged by the set of faculty members from SRMIST and school teachers. Best performers were selected for Three Individual Prizes under each category. All students of the school were given gift and refreshments during the event.

The Inauguration of a Self-Sustainable Milk Processing Enterprise for Women's Self-Help Group @ UBA adopted village

Date: November 2, 2023; Venue: Nattarasanpattu Village

Under the visionary leadership of our esteemed Honorable Chancellor, Dr. Paarivendhar, a transformative milk processing unit has been inaugurated to uplift the livelihoods of rural women in Nattarasanpattu village. This initiative, made possible through the collaborative efforts of SRM Institute of Hotel Management and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST, introduced a milk chiller, paneer-making machine, and cream separator on November 2, 2023, coinciding with the 2nd International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (ICSDD) with a focus on SDG 1 (No Poverty).

The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Dr. Antony Ashok Kumar, Director SRM-IHM, and Deputy Registrar. In his inaugural address, he underscored the significance of creating self-sustainable business opportunities for rural communities, emphasizing their role in boosting the rural economy and enhancing overall quality of life.

Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer (UBA-SRMIST) and Associate Director (CL), addressed the gathering, providing insights into UBA's vision for the overall development of the 12 adopted villages. He expressed gratitude to coordinators and village administrators for their sincere efforts in making the establishment of the milk processing unit a reality.

Dr. T. Deepa elaborated on the functionality of the newly installed equipment, demonstrating the processing of 10 liters of milk into paneer on the spot. She acknowledged the crucial support received from village administrators and SRMIST management, tracing back to the 2021 workshop on dairy processing and cattle management.


The event was presided over by Mr. T. Selvaraj, Director, SIRD, Chennai, who commended SRMIST's initiative in establishing this micro-enterprise for rural communities. He urged the local residents to seize this opportunity for growth and transformation, envisioning the creation of a Milk Society similar to the success story of AMUL in Gujarat. Mr. Selvaraj assured ongoing support from his office for similar initiatives in other villages adopted under UBA-SRMIST, expressing gratitude to SRMIST for its meaningful societal contribution.

Mr. Sambasivam, the founder of Aram Seivom Trust, extended thanks for SRMIST's consistent support over the past 20 years. He introduced the members of the Self-Help Group responsible for managing the milk processing enterprise, foreseeing its evolution into a cluster of businesses through collaboration with government schemes and NGOs. Ms. Girija, the manager of his trust, was introduced as a successful entrepreneur with contributions to online cosmetics business and free tailoring classes.

The function was graced by Mrs. Manjula Karthikeyan, Vice President of Nattarsanpattu. All delegates were felicitated during the ceremony, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. B. Samuel Jacob, UBA-Village Coordinator (SRMIST). The event's seamless coordination was ensured by Mrs. J. Vinodha Evangeline along with students from SRM-IHM, supported by the conveners.

On Imparting Technology to School Students of adopted Chettipunyam Village at Panchayat Union Middle School

 The department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (EIE), in association with UBA SRM-IST, jointly organized an Outreach Program on Imparting Technology to School Students of adopted Chettipunyam Village at Panchayat Union Middle School (PUMS), near Chengalpet on 10.11.23 (Friday), on the occasion of National Education Day (November 11th). This event, coordinated by Mrs.S.Sharanya, A.P, Dept. of EIE, SRM IST and Dr.P.A.Sridhar, Research A.P, Dept. of EIE, SRM IST falls in line with SDG 4 (Quality education) and SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy). The chief guest of the event, Dr. J. Johnsi Priya, Assistant Professor of Education, Meston College of Education shared the importance of learning new techniques and the art of practicing in real time. Convenor of the event, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life), Nodal Officer, UBA-SRM IST addressed the gathering and briefed about the activities of UBA cell, SRM IST. Mr.Joseph, Head Master (PUMS) had acknowledged the services rendered by faculty and students of SRM IST under UBA activity that works for uplifting rural education, during the inaugural session





This outreach has imbibed curiosity in 7th & 8th grade students for developing projects with basic electronics and understanding the fundamentals of Arduino coding for different real-time applications. The students had a hands-on session with basic electronics and the following projects were displayed and explained:

2. Power Supply Failure Alarm

3. Wind power Generation

4. Rain detector

5. Manual power Generation

6. LPG gas detector

7. Jumping jack with arduino

8. Snake game with arduino

9. Fastest finger first with arduino

10. Building logic gates (hands-on session)

 

 

Students had rapid fire questions and were acknowledged with prizes at the end of the session

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE

 The Tree Plantation Drive at Kattur Village Pond, Kattankulathur, officially commenced at 9:30 AM on Thursday, November 09, 2023. Mr. G. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing Technologies at SRMIST, extended a warm welcome to initiate the program.

 

             The distinguished presence of Thiru. Girichandran, R Councillor of the Maraimalainagar municipality, added significance to the event as he assumed the role of Chief Guest. Thiru. Girichandran.R. delivered a compelling address highlighting the importance of the Tree Plantation Drive.

 

             Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) & Nodal Officer at SRMIST, along with Dr. Revathi Venkatraman, Professor and Chairperson of the School of Computing, and Dr. Pushpalatha M, Professor and Head of the Department of Computing Technologies, graced the event.

                                              

             .Dr. T. Lakshmanan, Professor and NSS Program Coordinator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SRMIST KTR Campus, delivered a special address, emphasizing the crucial role that academic institutions play in instilling social responsibility among students.

 

             A total of 52 dedicated Ctech students actively participated in the Tree Plantation Drive Program, showcasing their dedication to environmental conservation. Mr. N.S. Sridhar, UBA CELL SRMIST effectively coordinated the event.

 

            The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks presented by Mr. M. Senthil Raja, Assistant Professor, Department of Computing Technologies (SRMIST), expressing profound appreciation for the unwavering support and enthusiastic participation of all attendees, volunteers, and the Guest of Honour.

Breast Cancer Awareness Program

 

On 31st October 2023, the Genetic Engineering Association, Department of Genetic Engineering, SRMIST along with Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan organized the Breast Cancer Awareness program at Thenmelpakkam. It was a session to provide awareness to the villagers about the basics of breast cancer, sanitation and preventive methods and self-tests methods available for the individual to test themselves.




A group of 28 B-Tech students, 5 PhD scholars and 2 Professors were involved in this program. Posters and pamphlets were made by the B-tech students. The volunteers left the institution at 9:50 a.m. and arrived at 10:30 a.m., when they were greeted by Mr. Govindarajan, President of the Village Panchayat. The rally was then led by Dr.P Senthilkumar, Associate Professor and Dr. A Devi, Associate Professor around the village. A brief description was given to around 50-60 locals based on their age, and pamphlets were distributed. The rally lasted for an hour and a half, after which the villagers served. Everyone peanuts, steamed tapioca, and cold drinks. The volunteers departed at 12:15 p.m. and arrived at campus at 12:50 p.m.

The meticulously organized Rally on SDG5 – Gender Equality 2023 program, which took place at the SRM University Tech Park on October 16, 2023, was flawlessly executed by the NSS Unit at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Kattankulathur Campus. Commencing at 3:00 PM on a Monday evening.

The event received a warm welcome and efficient coordination from Dr. M. Susila, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Dr. T. Lakshmanan, NSS Program Coordinator at SRM IST, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director (Campus Life) & Nodal Officer at SRMIST and  Dr Shanthi Prince Professor & Head honored the program.

Dr. M S Vasanthi, Associate Professor, delivered a special address for the program, while Dr. T. Deepa, Associate Professor, actively participated in the rally. Dr. K. Vijayan, Associate Professor, extended the vote of thanks for the program, with students energetically participating in the Rally on SDG5 – Gender Equality, under the theme "Leave No One Behind: Uniting for Gender Equality."









“World Students’ Day - 2023”

 The ECE Student Counselling Cell, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized competitions for Anjur Higher Secondary School students on the occasion of “World Students’ Day - 2023” on the topic “Empowering Adolescents using Life Skills for Psychosocial Competence” on 16th October 2023. Total of 100 school students participated in the event

  

Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer, UBA, SRMIST and Dr.P.Aruna Priya, Professor, ECE Student Counselling Cell Head and the convenor of the workshop has graced the event. The Chief Education Officer of Chengalpattu, Head master and Assistant Head master of Anjur HSS also graced the occasion



On 16th October 2023, at 10.00 AM the competitions were started for all classes. Around 100+ students participated in drawing completion, elocution, project expo and Wealth from Waste. For the classes 6th -8th standard “drawing” and “Wealth from waste” competitions are conducted. Around 45 students participated in both the competitions. For the classes 9th – 10th, Elocution on “How I see me” title was conducted both in English and Tamil. Around 15 students participated in the competitions. For the classes 11th – 12th standards, Project Expo on Satellite Space Events were conducted. 4 teams have participated in the event. They have done models on rockets, space events etc. For all the competitions three prizes are given to the students.

By 1.30 P.M, prize distribution was started. The CEO of Chengalpattu district, HM and Vice HM, Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer, UBA, SRMIST, Dr.P.Aruna Priya, Professor & Counselling Cell Head of ECE department and Dr. P.Vijayakumar, Professor and Coordinator Anjur Village and Panchayat Thalaivar of Anjur village have participated in the prize distribution function. They all have inspected the crafts done by students and models done by students for Project Expo.

Dr.P.Vijakumar, welcomed all the dignitaries and the faculties and students for the event. The Chief Education Officer of Chengalpattu motivated the school students with her talk by a short story and distributed few prizes for the students. Dr.P.Aruna Priya, Professor, and ECE counselling cell Head, gave a presentation on “Empowering Adolescents using Life Skills for Psychosocial Competence”. She explained the concepts with a small game and the students actively responded and participated in the game and volunteered themselves in the discussions. After her talk Dr. V.Thirumurugan and Dr. P.Aruna Priya presented the prizes for the winners

The Event Coordinator Dr.K.Harisudha appreciated the participants who had actively participated in the competitions. She also advised the participants to attend more events to improve their knowledge and skills. Further, the participants are instructed to give their feedback on this and suggestions for improvement in the arrangement of future events. The Coordinator, Dr. K.Harisudha, thanked the CEO, Head master, Assistant HM, Teachers, faculties of SRMIST, Nodal Officer and ECE Counselling Cell Head and the student volunteers. She also thanked all the committee members of ECE Student Counselling Cell, UBA team, UHV Team and Radiance club. The Event coordinator, thanked all the participants for taking part in the competition
