SEED NURTURING EVENT - 22nd August 2023

CommuniTree, based out of Chennai created a man-made forest on government land on an open state reserve after having an agreement between the government officials. Hafiz Khan said, “Till now, CommuniTree has planted trees and created man-made forests at around 110 acres of land at 28 locations in Chennai and Bangalore. Other peoples also became part of it as a volunteer to take care of the plants and trees and keep the target of at least conserving 80%-90% of plants out of the entire plant and saplings sown.” Hafiz said, “Humans are enemies of nature, on a path from where the human walks the plants never grow on that path again. At CommuniTree we organize vast camps to develop man-made forests. My organization has come forward to raise funds. The two major companies are Hero Motor Corp and The Times of India. There are many more such companies who also join their hands. With their help and support, CommuniTree has planted 5.6 lakh trees. The organization also creates butterfly parks in residential societies. It performs some activities at schools such as growing food forests with children and educating them about the benefits of trees and how to take care of them.” CommuniTree founded by Hafiz Khan in 2018 has so far planted numerous trees and created man-made forests at around 110 acres of land at 28 locations in Chennai and Bengaluru. Starting with a vision of saving the environment by building a better and greener tomorrow by planting saplings, this organization has created man-made forests and helps conserve the environment by increasing the green cover.

SRMIST was founded in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, by Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar as SRM Engineering College. Over the years, it has evolved into a multidisciplinary university offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across various fields. The institution's commitment to academic excellence, research, and a global perspective has earned it a strong reputation in India and abroad. SRMIST boasts a sprawling and modern campus infrastructure that spans across multiple locations, primarily in Tamil Nadu. Its main campus is in Kattankulathur, on the outskirts of Chennai. On 22nd of August 2023, on behalf of SRMIST Founders Day in association with “CommuniTree” and “Unnat Bharat Abhiyan” SRMIST organized a “Seed Nurturing Event”. This event was felicitated by Thiru A. R. Rahul Nadh I.A.S (Hon. District Collector - Chengalpattu) with Registrar - SRMIST, Campus-Life Director - SRMIST, Dean –Faculty of Management along with MR. Hafiz Khan (Founder CommuniTree).

The main objective of this event was to create awareness about seed nurturing and afforestation. A "seed nurturing event" refers to a specific gathering or occasion dedicated to the cultivation and development of seeds, often in the context of agriculture or environmental conservation. These events aim to promote sustainable farming practices, biodiversity preservation, and environmental awareness.

A "Seed Nurturing Event" organized by students is a gathering focused on educating participants about the process of nurturing and cultivating plant seeds. Typically held in schools or community settings, these events aim to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation. Participants, often including students and community members, learn how to plant seeds, provide proper care, and promote healthy growth. These events promote hands-on learning, instill environmental consciousness, and encourage individuals to take an active role in fostering a greener future. Paarivendhar Students Tamil Association's Green Initiative: in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 Planting 100 Trees for Hon'ble Chancellor Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar MP's Birthday Celebration.

 

On August 19, 2023, at Nandhivaram Guduvanchery, the Paarivendhar Students Tamil Association in association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 organized a remarkable event for the birthday of Hon'ble Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar MP, the Chancellor of SRM University. The event saw the collective efforts of SRM university students, faculty, and local community members in planting 100 trees along the Nandhivaram riverside. This initiative not only celebrated a milestone birthday but also aligned with a shared commitment to environmental sustainability.

The event brought together an impressive line-up of individuals who played key roles in ensuring its success. SRMIST Estate Officer Mr. R. Arunachalam and Campus Life Associate Director Dr. V. Thirumurugan provided guidance and support to the organizing team, demonstrating the university's dedication to eco-conscious initiatives. The event's impact extended beyond the university, with local dignitaries and community leaders participating. The presence of the Municipality President, Co-President, and Commissioner, as well as Nandhivaram-Guduvanchery area councilors, showcased a collaborative effort to enhance the environment. Moreover, the involvement of public members reflected a strong sense of collective responsibility.

Under the guidance of experts and enthusiastic volunteers, the tree planting endeavor symbolized a commitment to combat deforestation and promote a greener ecosystem. A variety of indigenous tree species were carefully selected to ensure long-term sustainability and biodiversity enhancement. The event not only celebrated Hon'ble T.R. Paarivendhar MP's birthday but also underscored his passion for environmental conservation. The trees planted will stand as a living testament to his dedication to creating a better and greener future.

The Paarivendhar Students Tamil Association's tree planting initiative stands as a shining example of how a collective vision for a sustainable future can come to fruition. The event brought together SRM University's leadership, students, faculty, local officials, and the public in a joint effort to create an eco-friendlier environment. VALUE EDUCTION AWARENESS PROGARMME ON WASTE MANAGEMENT - Value Education Cell In association with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0

 

The event aimed at creating awareness on waste management, separation of waste, conversion of waste into fertilizers and manure and to improve the livelihood of the village community of Chettipunyam village near Chengalpattu on 16/08/23.

The Department of EIE and Department of Architecture, in association with UBA cell organized a 1 day “Value education outreach programme on waste management” to the local community people of one of the adopted village- Chettipunyam near Chengalpattu on 16th August 2023. Solid waste management is an ongoing problem in every society. In order to tackle the growing issues and to provide a permanent solution, the outreach on waste management was organized. The Speaker Mr. Sekar from Resource Tech Chennai highlighted on the various avenues to convert waste into useful by-products, segregation of waste and how to generate revenue by converting into a fertilizer/manure.

            The event was inaugurated by Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL) and Nodal officer UBA and other panchayat members. Dr.V.Thirumurugan gave a brief talk on the importance of solid waste management and honored few sanitary workers with a shawl and a memento as a token of their societal responsibility. The outreach was attended by 10 student volunteers from the department of EIE who showed their societal responsibility in the form of audio visuals and explained the need for implementing waste management at home, society and a village as a whole. The 50 attendees were distributed with free cloth bags, boxes and refreshments at the end of the program.

The village community people well received the ideas shared by the speaker and were engaged to observe the possibilities of solid waste management in the form of audio visuals, demonstrations, plastic recycling methods and presentations. Free plastic bags with boxes for refreshments were distributed to all the community workers.

Cycle Rally Awareness and Tree Plantation -International Youth Day 2023 – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 In association with NSS & NCC

 

The day commenced with the cycle rally and tree plantation event on 12-08-23 kick starting at 6:45 am, graced by the presence of our esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. Lakshmi Narasimhan, Director International Relations, SRMIST. During his address, he highlighted the numerous benefits of cycling, emphasizing its role in promoting holistic health without the need for excessive expenses.

Before Mr. Narasimhan's speech, Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer, SRMIST-Unnat Bharat Abhiyan welcomed all participants and provided a brief overview of the day's proceedings. The event's significance lay in the planting of 84,000 tree saplings, a part of the Chancellor's birthday celebrations, as well as in raising awareness about the importance of cycling through the rally.

The cycle rally commenced with enthusiastic slogans advocating the rejection of plastic, the planting of trees, and the conservation of Mother Earth. The route covered various landmarks, including the clock tower rountana, arch gate, and the lake road, where participants actively planted tree saplings and sowed palm seeds. The rally continued to Potheri village, reaching the Ninakarai middle school, where more tree saplings were planted.

Furthering the momentum, the rally continued to Maraimalai Nagar bus stand, where students spread awareness about plastic usage. The journey extended to Kattankulathur, passing through the arch gate, and culminated near the food court with a well-deserved breakfast for all participants.

                                                                   



Students shared their feedback and recounted their experiences from the cycle rally, underscoring the event's impact. Dr. Laxmanan extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to the participants and the dedicated organizing team for their collective efforts in making the event a success.

Outreach Activity: Village Visit - Orathur Panchayat Village, Kanchipuram

 

The University Universal Human Value Cell, in association with Unnat Bharat Abhigyan on 11.08.2023. Around 40 second year students accompanied by 5 faculty members visited the Orathur Panchayat Village on 11.08.2023 at around 10 a.m. Around 35-40 people in the village participated in the event. The theme of the event was “Happiness in Continuity with Harmony in Family, in Society and in Nature”.

Dr. Supraja University Coordinator, UHV, SRMIST graced the occasion and delivered a special talk. She discussed about the topic of happiness with the gathered participants, and she shared from her own experience how harmony and happiness will ultimately lead to prosperity.

Dr.P.Aruna Priya, Professor, ECE Student UHV Coordinator has  graced the event and delivered a talk about happiness in the family. She also pointed out that effort needs to be taken by every family member to maintain continuous happiness and harmony.

The 2nd year students of ECE and its specializations performed exciting events to spread happiness among the gathered audience.

Ø  First event was a group dance performed by 2 students from ECE K and I section.

Ø  This was followed by a skit program by 12 students from ECE L section. The skit was about happiness from the perspective of various people in a society with different age groups. The skit was concluded with the theme that happiness is from within and we are responsible for our own happiness.

Ø  The last event was a soulful fusion dance by a group of 8 students. The songs were selected based on theme of happiness and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the program.

As a token of love a memento was given to all the people who participated. The event was conducted successfully.
