UBA SRMIST organized National Science Day at Nattarasanpattu high School under the Theme of Global Science for Global Well Being and Fostering Rural Innovations

 Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST in association with Department of Biotechnology, School of Bioengineering, Vidyanjali (A School Volunteer Program) – AICTE organized National Science Day 2023 under the Theme of Global Science for Global Well Being and Fostering Rural Innovations at SRM adopted village Nattarasanpattu on 28th February, 2023. The Science Exhibition by students of 6th – 9th standard was inaugurated by Mr. M.Kalyana Sundaram, Tahsildar, Kundrathur Block, Mrs.Vasanthi Sambasivam, President, Nattarsanpattu and Dr.B.Samuel Jacob, UBA-SRMIST village coordinator.

Some of the significant students’ projects include Smart street light, Hydraulic bridge, Smart metal detector, Human anatomy model, Botanical exhibits of medicinal plants for health and Volcanic models. Students explained the principles, application, and the societal relevance of the exhibits. Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer UBA-SRMIST and SRMIST Management have financially supported the students to create the prototype and models of the science exhibition. A panel of IV year B. Tech Biotechnology students (12) from SRMIST has evaluated the students’ projects. Team Gamma (Student Outreach Domain) of BioNexus, A Biotech Students Club of SRMIST has volunteered to organize the exhibition.

National Science Day function was further felicitated by village administrative officials such as Mrs.Vasanthi Sambasivam, President, Nattarsanpattu, Mrs.Manjula Karthikeyan, Vice President, Nattarsanpattu, Mr.Chakkrapani, Headmaster, Nattarsanpattu High School, Mr.Sambasivam, Head Parents Teachers Association, E.Aruldevi VAO, Mr.N.S.Sridhar UBA village coordinator and Ms. Anju, UBA Intern. Mr.Chakkrapani welcomed the gathering followed by presidential address by Mr. M.Kalyana Sundaram, Tahsildar, Kundrathur Block. He addressed to the student’s community about the need for knowledge development and application of science for Nation building and rural livelihood upliftment.



Dr.B.Samuel Jacob addressed the gathering and put forth the initiative taken by the UBA 2.0 towards upliftment of livelihood in SRMIST adopted villages. He has mentioned the special care being given on education prospects through Hon’ Founder Chancellor Dr.T.R.Paarivendhar, SRMIST by providing free higher education to the meritorious government school students of the adopted village. In addition, providing of lab facilities and infrastructure for the schools have been a prominent service of UBA-SRMIST along with rural tuition center brought by Puthiya Thalaimurai trust to deliver right kind of education for the rural students.

Meritorious Students Science Projects were awarded by the Chief Guest during the function. All the dignitaries praised the students for their innovative thinking. The event was further brought to liveliness by interaction of students and the village administrative officials and requested some facilities for their village school and infrastructure.

CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 2023, AT ORATHUR PANCHAYAT UNION MIDDLE SCHOOL - 27 Feb 2023

 On 27th February under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, SRMIST celebrated National Science Day 2023 on the theme “Global Science for Global Wellbeing” at Orathur Panchayat Union Middle School. The program was started with “Tamil Thaai Vazhthu” song by students. Ms.S.Kavitha, Head master of school has formally welcomed the chief guest Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Nodal Officer of UBA SRMIST and Mrs.ValliSundhar Panchayat President, Orathur Kundrathur Block. Dr. V.Thirumurugan, Nodal officer of UBA-SRMIST has presided the Science day program and delivered the address. 


In his Presidential address he said, SRMIST is one of the very well-known higher education institution in the country and we are active and interest in participating in events like this. He said SRMIST will always continue their work in development of villages and Govt. schools and has inaugurated the program


In his inaugural address she emphasized the importance of celebrating Science day and he encouraged students to develop their innovative skills in science and technologies. He motivated students to take Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, former President of India as their role model to become a great scientist like him in their future. 

Co convener Dr.T.Deepa assoc. professor ECE and Dr.B.Priyalakshmi Assist. Professor ECE has gave a brief speech about Science day and Dr. Ramalingam (Rtd.G.H.S, H.M) has shared his experience with SRM IST and delivered speech about science day.

Then the cultural programs has been conducted many students were actively participated in dance. Some students have given Speech on the theme “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”. Next Session was the Science Fair and Expo competition which was organized by school where they showcased different experiments and innovations of students. By observing all hard work with different ideas of students judges categorized first, second and third position of participants. 



Then we conducted drawing and essay competition among interested students based on the theme. Among the best we categorized participants into first, second and third positions. After completion of all competition we distributed prizes to winner .Finally the Program ended with vote of Thanks given by UBA-SRMIST team, HM of the School.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST has conducted free medical camp for Irula Community peoples of Anbu Nagar from Chettipunyam

 SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST has conducted free medical camp for Irula Community peoples of Anbu Nagar from Chettipunyam adopted village on 18-02-2023 Saturday. Camp was conducted at the Kanniyamman temple located in the village which is easily accessible for the village peoples .









Camp started by morning 9:30 This camp is totally team work which consist of medical and health professionals from various departments of SRM hospital .This General medical camp comprise of Optometry with general eye checkup and those who need special attention and care were referred to the department of ophthalmology  other than that  Pediatrics, General Medicine, Dermatology Checkup were carried out. 

Totally 110 people undergone general health checkup. All are treated with free consultation, medication, diagnosis. Patients who need further and regular checkup and treatments were referred to SRM general hospital provided with free treatment card

Free food is being given when coming for treatment in hospital. This regular camping will improve the health status of the village members and very helpful for the early detection, diagnosis and also the treatment or therapeutic procedures. 

People who needs medical care were referred to the respective departments and go through detailed evaluation and recommended for the treatment procedures. By 1:30 we have covered almost all the households of the village and people got benefitted with the camp and showed their gratitude towards the doctors and health professionals.

House hold Survey conducted at Kolathur and Chettipunyam adopted village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan -SRMIST

 In connection with the My India Project for II year B. Sc Students (Maths, Physics and Chemistry), they were taken outside to UBA Adopted villages kolathur and chettipunyam to do a survey project under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Under the guidance of Dr.V.Thirumurugan Associate Director campus life and Nodal Officer of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan-SRMIST.along with 31 students, we started the trip from SRMIST Kattankulathur on 11/02/2023 at 8.50 AM. Before starting the trip all the members took pledge against plastic usage. 

Thirty one students (Maths-6, Physics-10, Chemistry-15), two staffs each from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry departments, Mrs. Anju (Intern from School of Public Health), Mr. N.S. Sridhar from Estate office were present in the field visit. We had our snacks inside the bus .We reached the kolathur village by 10.30 AM. 



We met the village VAO and we started our house hold survey work. Students were divided into 10 groups containing two girls and one boy. 

They went to all the streets of the village in great enthusiasm and they took the house hold survey. Each group covered more than 12 houses, and total of 94 house hold survey were completed in the morning session. 


 Meena Parvathy Sankar, staff from Maths department took the village survey from the VAO. All completed their work within 1.00 PM. We had our lunch in the nearby temple. We started our survey work in the afternoon in Anbu nagar Village, Chettipunyam. 

In that village we visited the houses of irular community people and   the people welcomed us with great enthusiasm and the students took the house hold survey. 

Our Associate Director also accompanied us to the village. We took photos with the people. We completed the work by 4.PM.   In the evening session, students covered about 74 houses in the house hold survey. The forms were handed over to Mrs. Anju (Intern from School of Public Health) at the end, the students and the staff were provided with nice snacks and we all returned to the college by 5.15 PM.
