SRMIST-UBA ORGANIZED CYCLE RALLY TO CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT BAN ON SINGLE USE PLASTIC.

SRMIST-UBA IN COLLABERATION WITH INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS ASSOCIATION AND SRM UNIVERSAL HUMAN VALUE CELL ORGANIZED CYCLE RALLY TO CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT BAN ON SINGLE USE PLASTIC. “SAVE THE NATURE, SAVE THE FUTURE”

On 28.01.2023 (Saturday) Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of SRM Institute of Science and technology collided with Indian science congress association and Universal human value cell- organized a ban on single use plastic awareness Bicycle Rally programme.

The event was felicitated by Dr. S .V. Kasmir Raja, convener, Indian Science Congress Association, Chennai Chapter and he gave an informative talk about the dangers of plastic usage and its harmfulness to the environment as well as to human life. In addition he also listed the one time use plastic materials and how it affect and pollute our environment.

The Rally was presided by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director, Campus Life SRMIST and Dr. P. Supraja coordinator universal human value cell.

 It was attended enthusiastically, about 25 members participated which includes university students, teaching and non-teaching faculties and Research scholars of SRM Institute of Science and Technology Katankulathur campus. The bicycle rally started at 6:30 am from SRM campus clock tower and proceeded to Maraimalai nagar municipality via nearby villages and covered around12 kms .During the Rally we created awareness on single use plastic pollution and advised the people who were carrying plastic bags to not to use It and also thanked The Municipality workers for their wonderful effort to keep the city clean and returned to the university campus to raise awareness about the dangers of using plastic (one time using plastic materials).

At the end students shared their experience from the rally and also thanked the University for the Wonderful Chance given to them for being a part of this societal cause. Finally the Vote of thanks was given by Mr.T.N.Suresh faculty from Department of Physiotherapy who was also the part of this Rally.

Certificates were presented to all the students who participated in the event by Dr.Thirumurugan, Associate Director Campus. The event was coordinated by Dr. Supraja Associate Professor, Coordinator Universal Human Value Cell –SRMIST.

Organized by the Department of ECE, SRMIST in association with State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (SIRD & PR) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) SRMIST held from 24th to 27th January 2023.

Department of ECE, SRM Institute of Science and Technology and UBA SRMIST jointly organized the 4 days program on “ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING ON PLASTIC FREE BAGS MAKING BUSINESS IDEAS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR SELF HELP GROUP WOMEN”.

 Under theme of one of SDGs LOCALIZING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (LSDGs) – Poverty-free and improved livelihoods - (வறுமை இல்லாத மற்றும் மேம்பட்ட வாழ்வாதாரம்)

Inaugural address was presented by Joint Director of SIRD & PR, Tamil Nadu

The event was felicitated by Dr.Shanthi Prince, Head of ECE Department, convener, and she gave an informative talk about the usage of plastic free bags and its support to society.

 Dr. T.Deepa, Associate Professor, ECE, shared the importance of women's entrepreneurship and also shared how it supports their children's education with a happy life. In order to encourage every woman of this program stall has been arranged in the SRMIST campus for starting their business. 

The stall was inaugurated by Dr. V. Thirumurugan, Associate Director, Campus Life SRMIST,

and Dr.Shanthi Prince conveners of the event.  Event was attended enthusiastically by SHG Women, about 51 members participated.
